In ecology, nothing is wasted, nothing is superfluous, everything has beauty and purpose. As a designer, these are my inspirations and aspirations:

Next, what is being built? Question every desired space – can it be interlocked with another, borrowing space? Combined, or left out? Prefer local materials, make the place of the place.
The site should shape the building’s form. Each project location provides inspiration – solar path, wind patterns, topography, views and other natural features that are unique to the place should benefit the people inhabiting it.
Vernacular buildings can also guide form, as often they have paid great attention and responded to this particular environment. But we should understand when we are building. Take advantage of current practices for energy efficiency, renewable power sources, durable and healthier systems and materials. This leads to newer forms that learn from the past without mimicking, being not only appropriate to place, but time.
Finally, all of these practical concerns must come alive. To make intrigue thru a path, to make places for cloistering and others for openness, being aware of shifting light. The practical is lacking without the art, the art hollow without reality. To do both is why I design.
